We will be working from 5:30-7:00 p.m. both days. The focus is on trash pickup so bring gloves. It will most likely be wet out there, so good shoes are a plus. Other than that, dress for the weather. We will supply the trash bags.
March 26 we will meet at the Meijer’s parking lot. Meijer’s is located at 8 Mi and Haggerty Rd. We will be in the northeast side of the parking lot. If you come late, we will be working north of 8 Mi.
March 28 we will meet at the Cherry Hill rest stop on northbound I-275. We will be working south toward Michigan Ave.
Hope to see you on the trail.
We have identified the trail workdays for 2013. If you have a group looking for community service, we are more than happy to work with you. If you need to do community service personally, we qualify since we are a 501c3. If you use the trail, please volunteer.
Trash pick-up dates are:
March 26, 28
April 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18,
Trail maintenance workdays are:
June 10 & 25
July 10 & 25
August 5 & 20
September 4, 19, & 23
All workdays are in the evening. Details and exact location for each workday will be posted in the local papers, on the PATCH websites, our Facebook page and our website as we get closer to each event. We also send an email reminder to volunteers. If you are not on our volunteer email list and would like to be, send an email to I275MetroTrail@yahoo.com and we will add your name.
Look forward to seeing you on the trail this year to give us a hand. The condition of the trail is dependent on the work the volunteer groups do.
The city of Novi was awarded a Federal Transportation Alternatives Program grant for Phase I of the Metro Connector Trail project. Phase I is being designed now and will start construction in 2014.
Phase I will construct a 10 foot wide pathway along the east side of Meadowbrook Road from the I-275 Metro Trail to the north side of Twelve Mile Road.
Phase II is currently planned as a 2015/16 project. This 10 foot wide pathway will continue north on Meadowbrook Rd, along the east side, to Thirteen Mile Road. It will continue along the south side of Thirteen Mile Road to the M-5 Metro Trail.
This project will fill a gap in our regional trail system which the I-275 Metro Trail is a vital part of.
Congratulations Novi and from all non-motorized trail users – Thank You!
We have received two really exciting I-275 Metro Trail updates from MDOT.
The first is in the “northern” end of the trail. The city of Novi received a Transportation Alternatives Program award. The city is beginning the process of constructing a trail along Meadowbrook Rd that will go from the I-275 Metro Trail to 13 Mile Rd. Once this connection is complete, you will be able to continue along the 13 Mi Trail to the M-5 Metro Trail.
The second update is for the “southern” end of the trail. The extension of the I-275 Metro Trail to Huron Dr is programmed. Construction will begin January, 2014. This will directly connect the Metro Trail to Willow Metro Park and the Downriver Trail System.
Good news all around for trail users. Helmets and hats off to MDOT and the city of Novi!
With the new volunteer maintenance season around the corner, The Friends of I-275 Metro Trail is looking for your help.
This is the first year that the whole trail from Meadowbrook/I-96 to Hannan/I-94 will be completely open. That is a lot of miles of trail to keep an eye on. This is where you come in. If you ride a 2-5 mile section of the trail on a regular basis, would you consider volunteering to be the “Eyes of the Trail” for The Friends group?
All we ask is that you report to us at least once, preferably twice, a month on the condition of your section. Does it need cleaning? Is the vegetation growth getting out of hand? Is there damage to the trail, trees down on the trail, problems with bridges, fencing broken, signage damaged?
If you are interested in helping us, please email us at I275MetroTrail(at)yahoo(dot)com. Let us know which section of the trail you are willing to “keep an eye on.” The Friends group and MDOT respond to all issues as quickly as we can.
For everyone interested in volunteering to help clean the trail, we will be posting our clean-up dates for the season shortly. Please join us for any that you can. It is through the efforts of our volunteers that the trail remains in good condition, ready for when it connects to the Metro Parks to the south and to the Lake-to-Lake Trail (via the M-5 Metro Trail) to the north.
